How About if You Can Give Your Loved One a Gift with His/Her Name on any Metal? #gift #idea

The process and  result "A+"

Now you can write your loved one's name (just an idea) on any metal with some simple things. We will use a process called electroetching.

Ingredients:

1. white vinegar (vinegar that you usually use.)
2. salt
3. cotton buds

4. any metal (you can use spoon)
5. batteries
6. cables

Here's how:

1. mix the vinegar and salt in a small bowl (no exact amount needed) to make a new solution.
2. dip the cotton bud to the new solution
3. connect the cotton bud to the negative pole of the batteries.
4. connect the metal to the positive pole of the batteries.
5. start engraving with the cotton bud on the metal's surface. And, Enjoy!  :)

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Does this process (etching) work on any metal?

Yes, it does.

Then, what is the difference between Etching and Engraving?

Etching is adding a new layer(s) on the object's surface whereas engraving is subtracting a layer(s) on the object's surface.

Then, what is electroetching?

Explanation: #for #geek

Electroetching is a metal etching process that involves the use of a solution of an electrolyte, an anode and a cathode. The metal piece to be etched is connected to the positive pole of a source of direct electric current. A piece of the same metal is connected to the negative pole of the direct current source and is called the cathode.

In order to reduce unwanted electro-chemical effects, the anode and the cathode should be of the same metal. Similarly the cation of the electrolyte should be of the same metal as well. When the current source is turned on, the metal of the anode is dissolved and converted into the same cation as in the electrolyte and at the same time an equal amount of the cation in the solution is converted into metal and deposited on the cathode.
